Our classes are designed so that students use what they learn to help break down language barriers and connect with more people in the city. That means that our students learn conversational Spanish that native speakers right here in the community speak.
The bulk of instructional time is spent in conversation. While we give you the necessary grammar tools to communicate effectively, we know that authentic practice is what really facilitates language acquisition.

True Beginner Spanish
This course is for students with little to no prior experience with Spanish. You’ll learn to introduce yourself, greet others, communicate dates & schedules, talk about who you are. The focus is on building confidence in pronunciation, basic vocabulary, and simple present-tense structures.
Beginner Spanish I
Designed for those who have some familiarity with Spanish or have completed True Beginner. You’ll expand your ability to communicate in everyday situations such as ordering food, talking about family, likes & dislikes, and hobbies.
Beginner Spanish II
This level helps you gain confidence using a wider range of verbs and vocabulary in real-life conversations. You’ll learn to describe your daily routine, future plans, and give more detailed opinions. Grammar review includes irregular present tense verbs and reflexives.
Intermediate Spanish I
This course is for students who are able to speak fluently in the present tense, and are ready for past and present tense conversation practice. Students will be able to speak about past events, memories, and plans for the future.
Intermediate Spanish II
This course is for students who are hungry for even deeper conversation practice that requires more nuanced grammar, like the conditional and subjunctive tenses.
Advanced Classes
Our traditional advanced course is for students who’ve studied Spanish for a long time and consider themselves conversational. Here, we’ll go over some challenging grammatical concepts while emphasizing the improvement of speaking abilities in practical settings.
Note: We highly recommend taking one of our intermediate level courses before entering advanced.

Classes for Organizations
In addition to our community classes, we offer classes designed specifically for organizations. We’ve done classes for public and charter school staff, manufacturing and construction professionals, and local nonprofits that serve Spanish-speaking communities. We design the curriculum around the needs of the organization so that the Spanish students practice is the Spanish they can use in their day-to-day work. If you’re interested in a class for your organization, please send an email to info@vocesdenashville.com.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what class is right for me?
Our general rule of thumb is: if you have little-to-no prior experience learning Spanish, we recommend starting with our True Beginner class. If you can speak in the present tense with little to some fluency, you are a beginner. If you can speak with moderate fluency in the present and some in the past, intermediate. More than that, we say advanced. Check out the descriptions for each class, and if you are still unsure of your level, you can sign up for a placement call here.
Can my employer pay for my tuition? Can you help me convince them?
Yes! It is a great idea to ask your employer for financial support. In many fields, learning Spanish is a professional development opportunity that can improve your effectiveness in your role. We highly recommend asking your employer to help cover the cost and letting them know how it will help you in your day-to-day work. See here for tips on asking your employer to cover your tuition.
How much of a time commitment are the classes?
Currently, our classes are 8-week for 1.5 hours/week or 4 weeks for 3 hours/week We do assign homework outside of class that you are expected to complete, but we try to integrate it into your existing routine as much as possible (e.g. doing things you would normally do, but in Spanish!).
How are classes at Voces de Nashville different from other schools?
All of our classes are taught by native speakers from the community. As one student mentioned, you don’t really come to Voces to “learn” Spanish for some future goal; you come here to start speaking it right away!
